You know what's exciting about freedom from the expectations of womanhood? We're not doing it alone. I'm certainly not the first person to talk about it and there are many others having incredible influence. We as women have the opportunity to redefine what culture claims is beauty. We as women have the opportunity to be confident of our beauty because we are made beautiful in His image and likeness. Together we have power.
And so today I bring you a woman and her brand that is truly having an influence. Have you seen this video on the Evolution of the Swimsuit recently? I've admired Jessica Rey swimsuits from afar but until now had never known the mission behind the brand. I've provided just a sampling of her presentation below but highly encourage you to watch it yourselves. You won't be disappointed.
When a group of men were shown pictures of women in bikinis this was the result: A Princeton Professor said, "It's as if they are reacting to these women as if they are not fully human...Responding to these photographs as if they are objects, not people." It seems that it does give women power, "power to shut down the mans ability to see her as a person rather than as an object."
My (Jessica Rey speaking) goal is to disprove the age old notion that when it comes to swimsuits, less is more, and that you can dress modestly without sacrificing fashion.
Who says it has to be itsy bitsy? Everyone. Everyone today; fashion designers, the media, and let's face it sometimes parents.
Modesty isn't about covering up our bodies because they're bad. Modesty isn't about hiding ourselves. It's about revealing our dignity. We were made beautiful in His image and likeness.
What are your thoughts on the evolution of the swimming suit? How will you use your beauty?
