Last week I shared parts of my personal story as it relates to expectations. How my childhood and young adult years shaped my expectations have shaped my years and on Friday, how my relationship with Him is rewriting my story today. But what are the expectations we’re facing? Let’s call them out today. What are the expectations you are choosing to believe today?
// My Body defines my worth and value as a woman. //
My weight, shape, and body features define my ability to be worthy of love in the eyes of the world. Outward appearances define my femininity.
// My Homemaking abilities define my worth and value as a woman. //
As a wife and mother I must create and develop gourmet meals, always have a delicious homemade treat on hand, my laundry is never piling up, and I maintain a perfectly kept home at all moments. My home and ability to maintain my home define my femininity.
// My strength and independence define my worth and value as a woman. //
The world tells me I don’t need anyone’s help. If I am truly feminine than I am strong, fierce, and independent from anything and anyone. I’m Rosy the Riveter. I can Do It Myself. My strength and independence define my femininity.
// My schedule defines my worth and value as a woman. //
I am viewed as worthy and successful when I maintain a busy schedule. When I say ‘yes’ to everything. Instead of admitting I can’t do it all, I strive to prove that I can. My ability to maintain and juggle multiple activities, jobs, to-do lists, and responsibilities define my femininity.
Tomorrow let’s breakdown these expectations and rewrite them with Truth.
This is Day 7 - Freed from Expectations.
