Day 8 // A New Battle Tactic

131008_Hope

131008_Hope During the early years of the American Civil War, foot soldiers with small arms carried out the brunt of fighting on the battlefields. Thousands of men would be marched out to battle. Positioned in elbow-to-elbow formations. Such a mass of men would become an easy target for the enemy and as a result, many men were marching towards their imminent death.

And ladies, there’s a similar battle being waged this very day. And while by no means are we battling with small arms, we too are being marched forward into battle. We’re linked arm and arm seeking the approval of men through our outward appearances. We’re walking arm and arm feeding into society’s push for perfection. We’re walking arm and arm, as we each face the blows of defeat, never fully attaining perfection, never living up to society’s standard of beauty, each time realizing the pursuit did not give us life, but death.

But as history reveals, battle tactics can and do evolve. And we too can evolve and break free from the march of society. Because at its essence, what’s wrong with this tactic is that it comes down to placing our hope in men, instead of placing our hope in God.

“Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming.” – Ephesians 4:14

We can be women who reveal, express, and display God. We can be women that do not fear the mirror because we have hope in God. We can be women not swayed to march back and forth, following the rules of perfection and outward appearances laid out by society. We can be women satisfied by God and God alone. And if God, and God alone satisfies us, our relationship to outward appearances will fall into its proper place.

We can step out of societies march and walk into the freedom found only in God.
