Documenting | An Introduction to Memory Keeping in 2016

Roughly a year ago I stumbled upon Rhonda Mason's work on her former site Pink Ronnie which has now moved to her personal site The Shoemaker's Daughter and her business Life Captured, Inc. Rhonda, along with her business partner Trish, have set out on a mission to help people document their stories and create timeless, tangible keepsakes to be treasured for generations to come.

I have been captivated by their work for the past year, and as we prepared to welcome Bray into our lives last November, decided to get serious about our families memory keeping.

To begin, my husband and I took the fall to research and save for our first DSLR camera. While not necessary to begin memory keeping, we both agreed we desire to have high quality photographs of our family that can be utilized and enjoyed in multiple formats. We ended up purchasing the Canon Rebel T5 and have been thrilled with our decision.

With a new camera available, I have been working out my memory keeping system. This is my first pass at the process, so I know there will likely be adjustments made as I determine the best fit for our family. I started by keeping the end in mind, What do I hope to end up with?, and determined for our family I want to capture Bray's first year both in a traditional baby book and with a weekly photo project, The 52 Project. I also desire to document our year (although the extent and format I am still working out) and a bi-yearly storybook of our families daily and weekly rituals both in the spring and fall. You will note in my list below I have linked to Life Captured, Inc. for descriptions of each project as well as templates that can be purchased.

I anticipate this undertaking will take lots of discipline as a new mom, but I also anticipate not regretting developing the discipline to document our family each year. I hope to share progress throughout the year, the adjustments I make, as well as more about each individual project.

I am curious as well, how do you tackle memory keeping for your own home?
